Well the Scottish Saloons tv coverage is on again for round 3 and 4 from Knockhill. A pretty eventful race 1 for me so it should be a good watch. 7:00pm Thursday 26th

Just watched it. What happened in the first race? One minute you were 3rd and then said you finished 5th?

Thought the commentator was a bit off. He said that you were in the class above with more power, slick tyres and less experience..... I don't see how you can be at that much of an advantage with a less powered fiat coupe (as compared to an escort cosworth) which has very little pedigree. It was quite clear that you were faster in many of the corners but just lacked a little more power to get past him.

Do you have any idea what the spec of the yellow SEAT is running?

Great stuff again. Do let us know when your on again.

good racing Marco. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the races, looked like you caught some air round one of the bends off a curb and the cossy got a bit out of shape, cant believe the commentator never even mentioned it. Are all the races going to be televised?

Yes all the races are televised, that was the second meeting. I was much faster than the escort but fortunately for himhe has 600bhp and 4wd which was just giving him the edge on the strights and out of the hairpin. You seen on the coverage that he was struggling with grip well he had another moment and i tried to go round the outside of him but ended up at the next corner running into the back of him and the yellow seat and a caterfield got by. To be honest i was a bit disappointed with the coverage of the first race as our battle could have taken up the whole programme.

The yellow seat has supposed to only have 300bhp but it a 4 pot turbo with a dsg gearbox and is a full Seat cup car with full aero package etc etc. It's very quick and always gets quicker as the race progresses.

My car is still not quite there but it's not far away from the optimum i reckon. New gearbox is nearly ready so i hope to have that in for the next race.

Thanks for the comments guys, it's like that at the circuit and even the alfa boys from the classics have been over singing my praises which is very nice.

Here is Andrew Morrisons link to the Seat. Nice to own such a huge car dealership i reckon.

http://www.morrisons-garage.co.uk/history.html

If you look at my other post all the video's are from other cars in the first two race meetings and there is one from a spectator whic is really good.

I haven't had a chance to watch this yet.

My engine should be ready this coming weekend just in time for Cadwell park. Hoping for 20bhp more (10+% increase).

I think our next race at Knockhill is the Speedfair so I doubt I'll see you there, Marco, but all things equal I'll pop over and say hello the next time we are both racing.

Our coverage is on the same Motors TV show so there's a bit of a bonus. Much bigger grids in the Classics and should be 5 Alfas running next time it's covered.

Have to say that is a very pleasing photograph with so many other cars behind. Long may it continue.

Well done Marco - very impressive drive against (theoretically) more capable machinery - holding your own against a 600bhp Escort Cosworth is mighty impressive

I was watching the way your car rode the bumps, especially coming into the hairpin while hard on the brakes - it looks like it was set up far to hard at the front (either spring rate or damping - can't tell which) - the front was bobbing like an old 911

It was far less pronounced in the second race though - I'd say you either firmed up the rear or backed off the front

I also noticed the front splitter was a bit skewed - it was touching the ground (a lot) but only on one side - is it the car that's leaning or just the bumper that's a bit lop-sided?

For me though, the highlight must be the two black lines you laid down at the start of the first race - ever considered traction control?....

Don't have Sky and my parents don't seem to have it as part of their package anymore!

Is there anywhere online to watch it?

We watched the race last night, good stuff Marco, really good to see a Coupe on TV, even better to see it race competatively.
Rather an enthusiastic start in race one, it was funny seeing the skid marks on the track at the restart. haha

I too also thought the commentator was a bit harsh not mentioning the power difference and the fact the Coop is 2wd, not only that but fwd! It's a strange mix of cars, I see that my Seven is eligable for class C, if only it wasn't so far away.

Will look forward to seeing more races later in the season.

Cheers, Dave

Thanks Guys

Nigel the front i think is still soft and i might increase it. The back springs were definately too soft and i have just bought a pair of 750 lbs progressive springs so we'll try that. The splitter was on it's last legs and i was pulled up for having the front too low. That bumper is my original and has had a hard life. That will be sorted now for the next race. Its quite difficult getting a compromise on suspension set-up and by only changing the springs on the front between the first and second race meetings i went 0.7 seconds faster so it can be deceiving. The coupe as you know Nigel is not inherantly the best handling car in the world and i am hussling it pretty hard in order to keep up with these other guys. I'll just keep changing one thing at a time otherwise i'll never know what is actually making it better.

I should have my new gearbox by the next meeting so the ratios in that will suit Knockhill a lot better and i might see some gains there too.

At the end of the day i really enjoy driving my car on the limit and i get enormous satisfaction being able to keep up with cars that have huge amounts more race pedigree.

What people doon't realise is that the guy in the Cosworth was actually in class A1 running on slicks last year and actually won a race ooutright so him changing to class B running road list 1B tyres is the only difference. I'll get him next time i promise.
