Ok so here's the idea idea
Those who are Midlanders + others gather at good central point in or close to Birmingham, then convoy to Brighton, stopping at pre-arranged points to gather others along the way. We should all arrive in Brighton for mid afternoon easily, with enough time to settle before a BBQ on the beach or similar. Then if staying overnight in one of the many cheap available B&B's in the area, head off to sample the high life of Brighton by night.
What do you think? I was thinking May as the month of choice as for the last 2-3 years it's been good weather for most of that month.
This is an open thread for all to comment upon and put forward sensible ideas to enhance the event. If you're interested please could you stick your ideas and names down. smile

I have friends and family in Brum so might be up there anyway. If its on the weekend of the 23rd or 30th July (either Sat or Sun) I could start off the convoy. If not I can join when you get near London town.

Liquid,

Do you still have the LE coupe with the tarox brakes or did you sell that? Think we met at a midlands meet when I had my sprinty a few years back.

Ross,
Although I won't have to travel far it would be nice to meet others and welcome them to the Deep South! Dependant on dates (and holidays) we'll be there!

Weekends 6th. August onwards for me. Given that it's summer all year round down here take your pick!!!

In all seriousness, it's for the Boys and Girls from the Midlands to choose- I'll be pleased to turn up and enjoy some FCCUK company!

So would the 6th August be better than the 30th July. Can most people on the list make this date confused Please can we have some feedback, so I can start to put things together, locations, suggested accomadation, possible table bookings etc.
P.S. This event could include a pass through the Southwick Tunnel if you fancy?

Southwick tunnel with the windows down is a joy to behold- especially if we had ourselves a convoy! A23-A27- Shoreham- coast road into Brighton (A259)? Happy to assist in organising but I am on holiday 26th. July to 4th. August- Ross PM me if you think I can help.

lol, I know that tunnel well too, long enough to get some good acceleration through it.. in fact Dan, I remember a nice blast through it on our way to the Brighton meet last year.

times like this, I wish I still had the coop .. I'd so be on this road trip grr

Also a good turn around point for the tunnel.

ST are you sure confused 8th's a Monday
Guy's just doing some accommadation searching and found that just a single room for 1 night in the cheapest hotel will be £80ish frown Before we go any further with this idea are we OK with accommadation costing over £100 for a double room for 1 night? This could also incur parking charges depending on the hotel chosen. Please look at accommadation before commiting. Some deals are better value but require a minimum stay of 2 nights. Have a look and let me know your feelings wink

ST212, Sussex Pad as a meeting point isn't bad and also gives you two bites if the Southwick Tunnel cherry!!

Amazed that accommodation costs are so high!! Let's hope we get some takers, otherwise we'll have to get all the local lads and drive round and round the tunnel instead of a BBQ!

I have just checked the Premier Inn website and there is NO availablity for the night of the 6th. August in Brighton and any other south coast seaside location nearby!!Also on Laterooms.com only some 'bijou' hotels with rates for 2 night stay. Not looking good unless you know something better. It's probably because it is primetime school holiday season as well as half of Europe's youngsters aimlessly wandering around the streets of Brighton being culturally charged!
Happy to help but going on holiday myself (miles away from Worthing and Brighton) until 4th. August from 26th. July but I do work in Brighton so can do some leg work if necessary.

The only other option, would be to rent a house for the weekend and share the cost. I have no idea what that would cost? at least it wouldn't matter what time we roll in wink

Depends on cost I guess. What about Camping? (.....awaits all the Brighton camping jokes!). That wouldn't cost much.

Good idea Stuart wink I've looked into it and it's likly that the only available site is HERE It's very basic (ie. no shower block, just a water tap) now, who's feeling brave. It would mean getting a group taxi in and out of Brighton, but the accomadation saving would be substantial.

Some bad news - I might not be able to make it.

Got a serious coolant leak that I need to repair (footwell like a swimming pool). There's a chance the car could be in the garage that day now. I'll keep you updated.

So, what's happening with this one Ross?

I don't see much of a convoy heading down? Confirmeds seem to be;

Pondman - 6th Aug - Pease Pottage A23
Marco - 6th Aug - toddington services M1 south
Thunderbox- 6th Aug - Pease Pottage Services? A23
Hovedan - 6th Aug - blatting down the m4 from Bristol
ST212 - 6 Aug - Sussex Pad

Who's still coming, looks like it's a convoy from Pease Pottage services on the M23, consisting of Pondman, Marco (hrmm), Thunderbox and myself?

confused

Hi All,
I'm unsure as to how many have Realy commited confused I think the order of events if occuring would be:
Final meet up at Pease Pottage Services A23
Run up & over the Dyke Road?
Re-join A27, through the Southwick tunnel
Cut through Airport road. I've been through and I'm 35mm down on standard ride height. If you were worried about the bridge underpass?
Shoreham beach for BBQ - No restrictions on fires or fun wink
Then head to Brighton for a night out for those who are up for it.
Please can we have a final head count smile
Accomadation is still a sticky subject though. I might sleep in the car at this rate wink

Bad news guys - Unfortunately I cant make Saturday now due to an increase workload and the car has a serious coolant leak now.

Getting that sorted next Saturday - Will be going to Tunbridge Wells Italian Car Day though.

Sorry,

ST

Just returned from hols to read through the Forum! Still up for this and happy to meet at Pease Pottage as Pondman suggests but it would appear it's just three of us, including Hovedan. It would be good to do all the things suggested but we are unable to make anything from late afternoon onwards due to previous long-standing commitment.
On the basis that we are all pretty local (assuming the Hove of Hovedan means Hove Actually!) maybe meeting as arranged and then a saunter over the Downs, Tunnel and maybe drink at the Sussex Pad might be favourite unless we hear of a sudden influx of others keen to meet up?
Happy to go with the flow and count us in!

I used to live in Hove, hence the name, but now reside in Bristol!

Well, I'm coming down to Brighton on Sunday to meet some old friends over from Australia, but I can't really justify an extra night in a hotel for a 3 car meet up! If I was there anyway, or was local, I'd pop along for sure, but as I'm not, and Sunday will be a long messy day, I'm going to have to declare myself out frown

Will catch up with some of the original attendees for this at Tonbridge Wells on 4th September.

Dan,

Completely understand your position and although still happy to meet up with Ross we can do that anytime given we are only 18 miles apart. It would have been good to meet with folks from the Midlands and beyond had it come off. Maybe we should do some serious forward planning for another time to include camping and barbeque- a 'summer camp' for Coupes!?

Like you Dan, we will try to do T Wells but not too sure of commitments at this time.
