Hi, I have been toying with the idea of running a coupe as my daily driver for some time now, and have decided to take the plunge. I commute 250 miles per week, all A and B roads, and would like any advice on what model will take this kind of abuse, without falling to pieces.

Money wise, I have around £4000, and with 15 years ncb, insurance isn't really an issue.

I looked at a 20v Turbo this morning in Berkhamsted, but at £5000 it was in a poor condition, and I didn't just walk, I ran away Cheers, Malc.

I reckon 4k should be able to get you a decent 20VT, but maybe a P/R/S reg, there are still plenty of decent ones out there. The mileage sounds fine - 1,000 a month, 12,000 a year is completely normal for a Coupe. A nice black 20VT with low miles sold off here this week at about 4.5k

As they are now c.8-10 year old cars which do require attention and preventative maintenance, the quality of those second hand can be pretty variable.

I'd read the buyers guide on here, have a look to see if you can buy a Forum members' car if there is one that floats your boat, they do tend to be better maintained and loved than your run-of-the-mill car off a lot which normally sells Mondeos and Astras. Take your time, be prepared to travel to see cars and see if you can a specialist to look over your intended purchase for a small fee. If you are near Berkhamsted there are loads of forum members around there who can help, look at cars with you and you are only a few junctions around the M25 from Powerfiat who service many many Forumers cars from far (inc. Germany) and wide.

Good luck

Cheers,
Powerfiat and Forza Italia are both on my list of places to visit, and I'm on leave this week, so I'll do the rounds and see what turns up.

Cheers Vickster,

Unfortunately, well, fortunately I suppose, I'll be in Barcelona over the weekend, but I'll keep an eye out for future meets.

I looked at the coupe in Berko too! Seemed to drive ok (my first drive of a coupe ) but I too thought it was overpriced at £5000

Loads of scratchs and rust around the rear lights

Salesman was funny tho - "oh yes sir this will sell very quickly and its had the cam belt done which cost £1400 to do"

To be honest I didn't really look. I was just there to drive the coupe to see if I like them etc. (which I do )

It was really tatty when I saw it - but like I said I didn't look to hard as I had no intention of buying it.

I'm realy looking for a 20VT (6) pref electric or sprint blue.
