Some good posts here and it seems a lot of people would take poor man's Ferrari as an insult while quite a few wouldnt as well.

What about baby Ferrari - same meaning or a bit different?

What about not calling at a Ferrari as it isn't a Ferrari...

How about you are driving a grown up 500, or an updated X19 or a 2 door Tipo, or a flattened Multipla - they are make equal nonsense!!

I'm not calling it a Ferrari myself and never have done.

This thread is about the different reactions people have when they are on the receiving end of it.

3 posts up you called it a baby ferrari - no?

Ultimately its your car, and you can call it Betty Boo or Frankie Trouser Snake Beatrice the Third - but I reckon you will get more people laughing at you when you say I am going to get in my Baby Ferrari now..

Its a Fiat Coupe, be proud of its name, don't try and change it, unless you did go with Frankie Trouser Snake Beatrice the Third, that would look cool on the boot lid cool

No, that would have been a statement, all I have done is questioned others opinions on the meaning and usage of the terms.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I feel it would be wrong to have a whole thread dedicated to a Baby Ferrari without mentioning this, a true Baby Ferrari;

WOW - and convertible too....

I nipped out to the garage this morning, pulled of the covers and it definatly says Fiat on the badge.
Still looks nice to me though thumb

I've put the covers back on but I'll check for any change tomorrow wobble

What a pointless post, and from someone who owns a poor mans 1960's Lotus Elan tongue

I love the look of my Coupé, the interior of my Coupé and the 5 Cylinder engine. No matter what though it is and always will be a FIAT.... nothing more nothing less.

Love it for what it is..

I would change my coop any day of the week for a ferrari.

Doesn't really bother me what people refer it too, i love the car but im not in love with the car if you know what I mean.

Dont get me wrong the coops great... but afterall it is a FIAT

Best car ever? mmmm no where near, not IMO anyway but it does put a smile on my face.

The really odd thing is that If I had the kind of money spare to be able to buy and run a Ferrari then I'm afraid a Ferrari wouldn't even feature in my top three blush

Was that intended as an insult?

I want to take it as one because I feel I should, but I'm still trying to figure out how.

That's what this is about, so it's not pointless for me. tongue

The title is misleading though, I better change it to better reflect the contents of the thread and stop me getting any more flak...

Well.. I just call mine "baby" and I like to stroke her headlamps when she's been a good girl.

When she manages to avoid an accident she even gets a kiss on the steering wheel.. driving

Gregor,

Is your car one of the rare special editions with the Waffle seats?

The wheels, lights and front grille suggest it may be cool

Yeah I know, wink this whole thread started because I couldnt understand why the term "poor man's xxx" didnt seem offensive when applied to the Coupe but it did to every other car.

I now realise it's because when someone said that I was hearing it as "your car is like a Ferrari" rather than "you cant afford a Ferrari so stop trying to look like you can".

Judging by the differing responses on the first page, some people hear it one way, some the other way. smile

I think if you put some pictures on here you may be told just how RARE your car is. If all the bits I see are original, and you also have waffle seats then yes your car is really rare...

There are none of that version here in the UK, and only a handfull in Europe. They were normally sold in a special light metalic blue, but yours appears to be the even rarer dark blue shocked cool

You may be the ONLY person on FCCUK to have such a model cool rare eneugh for you? thumb

Spyker? I saw someone promoting them as Lambo-style seats! cool

This car has been in the family for at least 8 years. I even learned how to drive with the coupe, hated it at first, love it to death now..

I love those seats, and the honeycombe grille in that colour. How come it got the 16v engine in 2000?

It's a 1.8 Matt.

Gregor...

If it looks like this inside you indeed have a Y2K 'Special Edition' version, which was only available as a 1.8 16v. 2000 was 'some year' in Fiat Coupe production. I know of someone who ordered a 'regular' 20vt in Belgium and he got the 'Plus' Recaro's without the red stitching. In fact the communication about the SE's was pretty weird. Some dealers were convinced they could only order them in the light blue metallic. That's until Fiat had an Ink Black to testdrive. I personally heard there were only 2 in Belgium: one on a picture I saw at a meeting that had crashed (every single bodypanel had damage) and the one from Fiat (which I had the pleasure of using during a weekend when Fiat heard of a Belgian Meeting through my garage) which also featured a Plus / LE bodykit.

But seemingly you have one too. smile
